Rheinland-Pfalz State Philharmonic Orchestra
The Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz is a vibrant German orchestra based in Ludwigshafen am Rhein, with a history dating back to 1919. Originally founded as the State Symphony Orchestra for Palatinate and Saarland, it has undergone several name changes and transformations throughout its century-long journey, finally becoming the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz in 2007. Known as a touring orchestra without a permanent concert hall, it performs over 160 concerts each season across Rhineland-Palatinate and beyond, bringing classical music directly to diverse audiences. The orchestra has gained international recognition under notable conductors like Christoph Eschenbach, Leif Segerstam, and currently Michael Francis, who has been chief conductor since the 2019–2020 season.
This orchestra is celebrated for its rich recordings, frequent collaborations with renowned soloists and conductors, and commitment to music education and outreach.
