The Yawpers

The Yawpers are an American rock band, known for their raucous blend of blues, rockabilly, alt-country, and punk rock. Hailing from Denver, Colorado, the band was formed in 2011 by lead vocalist and guitarist Nate Cook along with drummer Jesse Parmet. The group quickly earned a reputation for their spirited live performances and a raw, energetic sound that defies easy categorization. The name 'The Yawpers' comes from a line in Walt Whitman's "Song of Myself" where he writes “I sound my barbaric yawp over the roofs of the world,” reflecting the band's primal and unfettered approach to music.

One of The Yawpers' most notable works is the concept album "Boy in a Well," released in 2017, which showcases their narrative storytelling capabilities set against the backdrop of World War I. Their more recent release, "Human Question" in 2019, continues to push their musical boundaries, encapsulating the rawness of human emotion and existential questioning through powerful vocals and dynamic instrumentation. The band’s energy and authenticity are further captured in their live session recordings, including the vibrant "Jam in the Van" sessions in both 2017 and 2022, which highlight their ability to deliver compelling, high-octane performances that translate their studio work into an exciting, on-the-spot live experience. With each release, The Yawpers have continued to build their following and affirm their place in the landscape of American rock music.
