The Coral are an English rock band formed in 1996 in Hoylake on the Wirral Peninsula, Merseyside. The group emerged during a wave of 2000s UK guitar bands and quickly made a name for themselves with their eclectic mix of classic rock, country, old-school rhythm and blues, and psychedelia. The band members include James Skelly (vocals, guitar), his brother Ian Skelly (drums), Nick Power (keyboards), and Paul Duffy (bass), with former members including Bill Ryder-Jones (guitar) and Lee Southall (guitar).
The Coral's eponymously titled debut album, released in 2002, contained the hit single "Dreaming of You" and received a Mercury Prize nomination, establishing the band as one of the leading lights of that era. They continued to release a series of well-received albums throughout the 2000s and 2010s. The band's music is often characterized by a spirit of adventure and experimentation, blending various genres into their own distinctive sound. In 2021, to the delight of their fans, The Coral celebrated their self-titled debut with a remastered release. Following this, their 2021 album "Coral Island" delved into a thematic exploration of British seaside culture, receiving critical acclaim for its storytelling and imagery. Their consistent craftsmanship, combined with a sense of timeless melodic flair, has sealed The Coral's status as one of the more enduring and beloved bands to come out of the early 21st century British music scene.
