Steely Dan

Steely Dan, the sophisticated blend of rock, jazz, and rhythm and blues, was established in the early 1970s by the creative partnership of Walter Becker and Donald Fagen. Initially formed as a full band, the group shifted toward a studio-centric entity in their prime, enlisting an ever-changing cast of skilled session musicians to realize their intricate compositions. With a foundation built on Fagen's vocals and keyboards alongside Becker's bass and guitar work, Steely Dan crafted a polished and genre-defying sound, underscored by wry, cerebral lyrics and complex musical arrangements.

Their commercial success peaked in the 1970s with classic albums such as "Pretzel Logic," "Katy Lied," "The Royal Scam," and the critically acclaimed "Aja." After disbanding in 1981, following the release of "Gaucho," Becker and Fagen pursued solo careers before reuniting in 1993 and releasing two more albums: "Two Against Nature," which won four Grammy Awards including Album of the Year in 2000, and "Everything Must Go" in 2003. Despite Becker's passing in 2017, Fagen has continued to tour under the Steely Dan moniker, maintaining the band's legacy through evocative live performances, such as those captured in the "NORTHEAST CORRIDOR: STEELY DAN LIVE" album, and keeping their music alive for new generations of fans.
