Rebecca Sugar is an American animator, writer, producer, director, and musician best known for creating the hit Cartoon Network series *Steven Universe*. Born in 1987 in Silver Spring, Maryland, she began her career as a writer and storyboard artist on *Adventure Time* before launching *Steven Universe* in 2013, becoming the first non-binary person to independently create a series for the network. Her work has been widely celebrated, earning her seven Primetime Emmy Award nominations.
Raised with a strong appreciation for art and storytelling, Sugar studied animation at the School of Visual Arts in New York, where she developed short animated films and honed her craft.
