M. S. Sheela

M. S. Sheela is a renowned Carnatic classical, light music, and devotional singer from India. Born on March 16, 1952, in Bangalore, Karnataka, she began her musical journey under the guidance of her mother, M. N. Rathna, and later trained with R. K. Srikantan, a prominent figure in the Sri Thyagaraja Parampara tradition. Her career spans performances for All India Radio and Doordarshan, showcasing her versatility in both classical and light music. She has contributed to significant albums, including compositions by renowned artists such as Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar and Veene Sheshanna.

M. S. Sheela's contributions to Indian classical music have earned her several prestigious awards. She was honored with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and the Sangita Kala Acharya from the Madras Music Academy, both in 2019. Additionally, she has received the Rajyotsava Prashasti from the Government of Karnataka and the Ganakalashree award. Through her organization, Hamsadhwani Creations, she and her husband host music workshops and festivals, recognizing achievements in the field with the Hamsadhwani Puraskara.
