Chuck Turner

Chuck Turner (born Charles Turner, April 6, 1963, Jamaica, West Indies), sometimes publicly known as Norris Hill, is a reggae and dancehall vocalist and songwriter who first made waves in the Jamaican music scene as a session drummer at just 11 years old. His early career saw him playing for top studios like Tuff Gong and Dynamic Sounds, and with bands like Black Culture and Zenith Band, where he developed a passion for singing and performing soul, R&B, and reggae. Chuck rose to prominence in 1987 with his hit single “I Need You,” produced by King Jammy$, which was quickly followed by other popular tracks like “Tears” and “Runaround Girl”.

Despite early setbacks, including a severe motorcycle accident and a traumatic robbery in 1989 that left him in comas on separate occasions, Chuck Turner persevered and continued his musical journey, later embracing his faith and maintaining a presence in the reggae community. While he’s spent many years residing in New York, he remains a beloved figure at Jamaican music festivals and continues to release new music, balancing classic roots and dancehall vibes with contemporary dancehall production. Recent releases, such as “Culture Rule” and “We Rule The Dancehall / Version,” showcase his ongoing influence and adaptability within the genre.
