The Country Gentlemen

The Country Gentlemen emerged as one of the most influential bluegrass groups of the late 20th century, known for their precise musicianship and innovative approach to traditional music. Formed in 1957 in the Washington, D.C. area, the band's original lineup included guitarist and singer Charlie Waller, banjoist Eddie Adcock, mandolinist John Duffey, and bassist Tom Gray. Their sophisticated sound, incorporating folk, country, and even pop influences, pushed the boundaries of the bluegrass genre and garnered them a dedicated following.

Throughout their career, The Country Gentlemen's lineup saw many changes, but Charlie Waller remained the cornerstone until his passing in 2004, helping the band maintain its signature style and musical excellence. The group's discography is expansive, with highlights including "The Young Fisherwoman," "Return Engagement," "Country Concert," and live recordings such as "Live In Japan." Their album "25 Years" commemorates a quarter-century of their music, while collections like "The Early Rebel Recordings: 1962-1971" showcase the group's formative years. Recognized with numerous awards and inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame, The Country Gentlemen's legacy endures through their indelible imprint on the bluegrass music scene.
