Electro Hippies

Electro Hippies was a seminal crust punk band hailing from St Helens/Wigan, near Liverpool, UK, that emerged in the mid-1980s. A key player in the grindcore and crust punk scenes, the band carved a niche for itself with its fiercely political lyrics, rapid-fire tempos, and a staunch DIY ethic. Initially formed in 1985, the trio comprised of Andy (guitar and vocals), Dom (bass), and Simon (drums) gained a reputation for their confrontational sound and socio-political commentary. They were associated with the anarcho-punk movement and shared a philosophical kinship with bands such as Napalm Death and Extreme Noise Terror.

Their most notable works include the blistering compilation "Deception of the Instigator of Tomorrow: Collected Works 1985-1987," which is a densely packed retracing of their early discography, demonstrating the band's raw power and commitment to their craft. "The Only Good Punk," which is a slogan transposed into sound, serves as a testament to their undiluted punk ethos, while "Play Fast or Die," captures the essence of their live performance - fast, loud, and unrelenting. Despite disbanding in 1989, their brief but blazing trajectory left an indelible mark on the extreme music scene with that release, forever embedding them in the annals of underground music.
