V.K. Raman, also known as Raman Kalyan or Flute Raman, is a distinguished Indian Carnatic flutist renowned for his melodic and technically pure renditions. He began learning flute at the age of 9 under the guidance of Vidwan A. V. Prakash and gave his first full concert performance at 15 in Mysore. Later, he advanced his training with the legendary Dr. N. Ramani, performing alongside him on many occasions. Raman is appreciated for blending traditional Carnatic music with modern flute techniques, earning accolades such as the Best Flautist award twice from the Madras Music Academy. He has performed worldwide at prominent venues and is also a passionate educator, founding the Indo-American Academy of Classical Music to promote Indian classical music in North America, using innovative methods like video conferencing to reach students globally.
