Dicró

Dicró, whose real name was Carlos Roberto de Oliveira, was a Brazilian samba musician renowned for his humorous and often satirical approach to samba. Born on May 14, 1946, in the city of Mesquita in the state of Rio de Janeiro, he became a popular figure in the Brazilian music scene through his clever lyrics and charismatic stage presence. Dicró's artistry was deeply rooted in the everyday lives of working-class Brazilians and the culture of the 'malandros,' a term in Brazilian Portuguese that roughly translates to 'rogue' or 'trickster.'

Over the years, Dicró developed a robust discography that delighted fans of samba and comedy alike. His album titles often reflected his comedic style, with titles like "As mais divertidas do Dicró" (The Most Fun of Dicró) and "O Último Malandro" (The Last Rogue), hinting at the playful content within. His humorous takes on life's ironies shone through in albums such as "O Bingo Da Sogra" (The Mother-in-Law's Bingo) and "Barra Pesada" (Heavy Burden). Dicró was also known for his dynamic live performances, one of which was captured in the album "Os 3 Malandros In Concert," showcasing his ability to engage and entertain an audience. Despite the humor, Dicró’s music was also a celebration of the samba tradition and Brazilian culture, often resonating with social critique. He passed away on April 26, 2012, but left a legacy as one of the most beloved "malandros" in Brazilian music.
