Mika Stoltzman is a celebrated marimbist known for her energetic and virtuosic performances that blend jazz, classical, and world music influences. Growing up on a small island in southern Japan, she began studying piano at the age of three and later developed a fascination with drums in junior high. At 18, she discovered the marimba, an instrument that combines her love for piano and percussion. After studying marimba in Toronto and later moving to New York in 2008, Mika has toured extensively, performing in 19 countries and 65 cities worldwide.
She has appeared at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, the Blue Note in New York, and international jazz festivals like Tokyo and Cairo. Mika has collaborated frequently with her husband, renowned clarinetist Richard Stoltzman, releasing duo albums such as *Duo Cantando* featuring guest artist Chick Corea. Her recordings like *Marimba Soul* and *Taperebá* showcase her remarkable technical skill and emotional expressiveness, often on a unique Demorrow marimba crafted from rosewood bars collected over a decade. Mika is also noted for premiering Chick Corea’s Piano Concerto No. 1 arranged for marimba with symphony orchestras in Mexico and Italy.
