Matthias Schmitt

Matthias Schmitt is a German composer born in Würzburg in 1958. He began his musical journey at the age of four and later became involved in popular music, playing in bands. His career took a significant turn when he met composer and percussion teacher Siegfried Fink, leading him to study percussion and eventually become a renowned composer and educator. Since 1996, Schmitt has focused on percussion music, creating some of the most popular marimba pieces, including "Ghanaia," "Sechs Miniaturen," "Corrido," and "Nocturne." His educational contributions include the three-volume collection "Young and Sweet (Suite)," which is accompanied by CDs. Schmitt also runs a music school called "Clavis," where he teaches a variety of instruments in an authentic manner.

Schmitt's compositions have gained international recognition, with "Ghanaia" being particularly celebrated among percussionists worldwide. The piece, which requires four mallets, has been interpreted over 150 times on platforms like YouTube. Additionally, his work "Agnus Dei" for choir and marimba has been performed globally, including in New York and various European cities. Schmitt's recent releases include volumes of "Young and Sweet (Suite)" and tributes to other artists, showcasing his versatility and continued contribution to the music world.
