Kristina Arakelyan is a highly acclaimed composer and pianist known for her intensely lyrical and emotionally powerful music. Born in Budapest in 1994 to an Armenian family, she developed a passion for music early on, particularly after being introduced to opera as a child. She moved to Armenia at age four and later relocated to England in 2006 to pursue her musical education at the Purcell School. Her training continued at the Royal Academy of Music and the University of Oxford, culminating in a PhD in composition from King's College London. Arakelyan's compositions span a wide range of genres, including choral, symphonic, chamber music, and solo pieces, and have been performed at prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall and the Southbank Centre.
Arakelyan has received numerous awards and accolades, including first prize in the BBC Proms young Composers Competition in 2010. Her notable works include the opera *Penelope: Seven Ways to Wait*, *Seascapes* (a choral companion to Britten's *Four Sea Interludes*), and *Fantasia on a Theme by Beethoven*. She is also recognized for her commitment to music education and has collaborated with prominent ensembles such as the BBC Singers and the BBC Concert Orchestra. Her solo debut album, *Dreamland*, is set to release in autumn 2024, further showcasing her talent as a pianist and composer.
