Baka Beyond

Baka Beyond is a world music group formed in 1992 that fuses Celtic and other Western music styles with traditional African music, particularly inspired by the Baka people of Cameroon. The band was founded by British musicians Martin Cradick and Su Hart after they spent time living with and recording the music of the Baka tribe in the Cameroonian rainforest. Over the years, Baka Beyond has evolved to include musicians from various backgrounds, including members from Senegal, Brittany, Sierra Leone, Congo, and Ghana, creating a unique multicultural sound.

The band doesn't just perform music inspired by the Baka people - they maintain an ongoing relationship with them, sending royalties to support development projects and even touring with Baka musicians at times. Baka Beyond has released numerous albums over their 30+ year career, combining African rhythms with Celtic melodies to create a danceable, globally-influenced sound. Their music often incorporates field recordings from the rainforest alongside studio recordings, reflecting their commitment to honoring their inspiration while creating something new.
