ANOHNI

ANOHNI, formerly known as Antony Hegarty of the band Antony and the Johnsons, is a captivating artist whose work encompasses haunting melodies and thought-provoking lyrics. Born in Chichester, England, in 1971, ANOHNI's career has been marked by a deep exploration of identity, politics, and the human condition, often through the lens of her own experiences as a transgender woman. With a rich, quivering voice that has become her signature, ANOHNI's music defies simple categorization, blending elements of chamber pop, cabaret, and avant-garde experimentation.

Rising to prominence in the early 2000s with Antony and the Johnsons, ANOHNI won the Mercury Prize in 2005 for the album "I Am a Bird Now," which solidified her place in music as an important and innovative voice. In 2016, she released "Hopelessness" under the mononym ANOHNI, an electronic-infused album that boldly tackled topics such as climate change, drone warfare, and government surveillance. The artist's evolution continued with a string of poignant releases, as seen in the evocative singles "My Back Was A Bridge For You To Cross" and "Why Am I Alive Now?" and the politically charged "I Will Survive b/w R.N.C. 2020." Combining activism and artistry, ANOHNI continues to use her music as a platform for critical commentary and emotional expression, touching listeners with her profound authenticity and innovative soundscapes.
