Lennie Tristano

Lennie Tristano was an American jazz pianist, composer, and teacher. He was a pioneer of the cool jazz style and was known for his complex harmonies and improvisations. Tristano was also a gifted teacher, and his students included some of the most important jazz musicians of the post-war era, such as Lee Konitz, Warne Marsh, and Sal Mosca.

Tristano was born in Chicago in 1919. He began playing piano at an early age and studied classical music at the American Conservatory of Music. In the early 1940s, he began playing jazz and quickly developed a reputation as one of the most innovative pianists in the genre. In 1949, he formed his own group, the Lennie Tristano Sextet, which became one of the most popular jazz groups of the era. Tristano continued to perform and record throughout the 1950s and 1960s, but he gradually withdrew from the music scene in the late 1960s. He died in 1978 at the age of 59.
