René Bottlang

René Bottlang is a Swiss jazz pianist and composer, born on May 1, 1953, in St. Gallen. He studied at the Conservatory in Lausanne and the Swiss Jazz School in Bern. Bottlang has had a diverse career, performing at numerous jazz festivals with his group *Orchestre à musiques* and later with *Madame Schwab*. In the late 1970s, he moved to Paris and collaborated with prominent figures in the French jazz scene. Over the years, he has worked with notable musicians such as Mal Waldron, Steve Lacy, and Barre Phillips. Bottlang has also released several albums, including solo works and collaborations like *Hommage à Boby Lapointe* and *Autumn in New York*.

Bottlang's musical journey has included various projects and collaborations across Europe. He has composed for festivals and media, and his work extends beyond jazz to explore other musical traditions. In the 1990s, he briefly relocated to Vienna, which led to performances with Franz Koglmann and increased presence in Eastern Europe. Bottlang's eclectic approach to music has allowed him to engage in crossover projects, reflecting his interest in diverse musical styles.
