Black Stone Cherry is a hard-hitting American rock band founded in 2001 in Edmonton, Kentucky. The band is composed of Chris Robertson (lead vocals, guitar), Ben Wells (guitar, backing vocals), Jon Lawhon (bass guitar, backing vocals), and John Fred Young (drums, backing vocals), who all grew up in the shadow of the Southern rock tradition, with John Fred Young being the son of The Kentucky Headhunters’ rhythm guitarist Richard Young. Black Stone Cherry’s sound is a robust blend of Southern rock, hard rock, and metal, marked by loud, aggressive guitar riffs and soulful vocals. They have built a passionate fanbase with their high-energy live performances and relentless touring.
Over the years, Black Stone Cherry has consistently released powerful albums and notable singles, including the more recent "The Human Condition" which dropped in 2020 and its subsequent "Deluxe Edition." The band draws upon a variety of inspirations which are evident in covers like "What's Love Got To Do With It" and "Give Me One Reason," showcasing their ability to bridge classic soulfulness with hard rock intensity. Their penchant for the blues is reflected in their "Black to Blues" volumes, while releases like "Family Tree" (2018) and "Live From The Royal Albert Hall... Y'all!" (2022) further solidify their standing as a staple in the contemporary rock scene and as a formidable live act. Their storytelling abilities shine through thematic songs like "Be Cowboy (PBR Anthem)," which was adopted by the Professional Bull Riders association, and the introspective "Screamin' at the Sky." Even as they continue to evolve, Black Stone Cherry maintains its commitment to delivering heartfelt rock 'n' roll with a distinct Southern edge.
