Cæcilie Norby

Cæcilie Norby is a Danish jazz vocalist whose rich and versatile career has made her a distinctive figure on the European jazz scene. Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, on September 9, 1964, Norby comes from a highly musical family; her father is a composer and her mother is an opera singer. She initially embarked on a career as a classical singer but pivoted to jazz, finding the freedom of improvisation and the depth of the American jazz songbook more compelling.

Norby’s career blossomed in the late 1980s and early 1990s with the release of several albums that showcased her agile voice and ability to straddle the genres of jazz, pop, and rock. Her ability to imbue each song with a strong sense of character and storytelling has made her a favorite among jazz connoisseurs. Over the years, her discography has expanded to include a myriad of projects that reflect her broad musical interests, from her interpretations of pop songs in "Cæcilie Norby Synger Toppen Af Poppen" to her embrace of classical influences. With collaborations that span the spectrum of jazz, including her work with the group Sisters in Jazz, Norby remains an influential figure for her seamless integration of different genres, technical proficiency, and emotional resonance in her vocal performances.
