Barbara Pittman (April 6, 1938 – October 29, 2005) was an American rockabilly singer, one of the few female vocalists to record at the legendary Sun Records. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Pittman was immersed in the burgeoning rock 'n' roll scene of the 1950s and became known for her passionate voice and blues-inflected performance style. She was associated with the vibrant Sun Records roster that included icons such as Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and Jerry Lee Lewis.
Pittman's musical contributions are best remembered for their raw energy and authenticity, hallmarks of the Sun Records sound. Although she never achieved the same level of fame as some of her Sun Records contemporaries, her recordings, like "I Need A Man" and her rendition of "Cold Cold Heart,” continue to be celebrated for their contribution to the rockabilly genre. Barbara's talent shone through in songs such as “The Eleventh Commandment” and “Handsome Man,” which showcased her ability to deliver a track with both attitude and a sense of vulnerability. Her personal life was marked by the struggles typical of musicians of the era trying to break through, but her music has stood the test of time, influencing generations of rock and rockabilly aficionados.
