ONMYO-ZA

Onmyo-Za (陰陽座), which translates to "The Gathering of Yin and Yang," is a unique Japanese heavy metal band that seamlessly blends traditional Japanese music and folklore with the intense energy of metal. The group was founded in 1999 by vocalist Matatabi and lead guitarist Maneki, who were later joined by bassist Kuroneko and drummer Tora. Renowned for their theatrical stage costumes inspired by Heian-era robes and kabuki makeup, Onmyo-Za has carved out a niche for themselves, creating a distinct sound that resonates with fans worldwide.

Over the years, Onmyo-Za has built an extensive discography with a steady output of albums and singles that tell stories steeped in Japanese mythology and history, often employing classical Japanese musical elements and instruments. Their impressive body of work includes tracks like "龍凰童子" (Ryuou Douji), "茨木童子" (Ibaraki Douji), and "覇道明王" (Hadou Myouou), showcasing their ability to orchestrate a fusion of genres while maintaining a solid metal backbone. Fiercely proud of their cultural heritage, Onmyo-Za doesn't just play music; they create auditory experiences that transport listeners to a realm where ancient tales unfold against a backdrop of powerful riffs and haunting melodies.
