Clarence White
Clarence White was a groundbreaking American guitarist known for his masterful flatpicking style and innovative work in both bluegrass and country rock. He first rose to prominence as a member of the Kentucky Colonels, where his dazzling acoustic guitar work helped redefine the role of the instrument in bluegrass music. Later, he joined the legendary band The Byrds, contributing to their shift toward a more country-influenced sound and pioneering the use of the B-Bender guitar, which allowed his electric guitar to mimic the sound of a pedal steel.
Widely respected by peers and guitar enthusiasts alike, White’s playing combined technical brilliance with deep musicality, and his influence can still be heard across genres today. Despite his life being tragically cut short in 1973, Clarence White left behind a legacy that continues to inspire generations of guitarists.
