Sadistic Mika Band

Sadistic Mika Band was a pioneering Japanese rock group formed in the early 1970s, named in an ironic tribute to the 'Plastic Ono Band' with a nod towards the typically provocative nature of their music and performances. The band was led by the charismatic husband and wife duo—guitarist and songwriter Kazuhiko Katō, and the flamboyant Mika Fukui on vocals—alongside a changing lineup of talented musicians who contributed to the group's unique sound. Deriving influences from glam rock, progressive rock, and traditional Japanese music, the Sadistic Mika Band quickly gained recognition for their theatrical stage presence and eclectic musical style. Their self-titled debut album was one of the first by a Japanese group to be released worldwide, helping to establish their international cult following.

The Sadistic Mika Band's legacy persisted into the new millennium with a series of remasters breathing new life into their classic body of work. Their most recent releases, including remastered versions of iconic albums such as "Live In London," "HOT! MENU," and "黒船" (Kurofune, meaning 'Black Ship'), have reconnected long-time fans and attracted new listeners alike with high-fidelity updates to their '70s discography. The remastered editions preserve the original essence and innovative spirit of the band, illustrating why the Sadistic Mika Band remains a significant and influential chapter in the history of Japanese rock music.
