Thin Lizzy is an Irish rock band formed in Dublin in 1969. The group originally consisted of bassist and vocalist Phil Lynott, drummer Brian Downey, guitarist Eric Bell, and subsequently included guitarists Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson as key members of their lineup. Known for their distinctive twin lead guitar harmonies and hard-rocking sound infused with elements of Celtic music, Thin Lizzy gained international recognition through Lynott's emotive songwriting and charismatic presence.
The band's breakthrough came with the 1976 hit "The Boys Are Back in Town" from their sixth studio album "Jailbreak," which propelled them to global fame. Throughout their career, Thin Lizzy released twelve studio albums, with their final record "Thunder and Lightning" in 1983 showcasing a heavier sound that resonated well with the heavy metal crowd. Despite achieving moderate success with their studio albums, Thin Lizzy was renowned for their dynamic live performances, as captured on their celebrated live album "Live and Dangerous" in 1978. Following the death of frontman Phil Lynott in 1986, the band's legacy has been maintained through various reunions and tributes. Thin Lizzy's influence can be seen in countless rock and metal bands who cite them as a major inspiration, securing their place in rock history as true legends of the genre.
