RBL Posse, short for Ruthless By Law, was a pioneering gangsta rap group that emerged from San Francisco's Hunters Point neighborhood. Formed in 1991 by Black C (Christian Mathews) and Mr. Cee (Hitler Washington), the Posse quickly became a fixture in the West Coast hip-hop scene with their gritty narratives and authentic depiction of street life. The group's first album, "A Lesson to Be Learned," was released in 1992 and featured the iconic track "Don't Give Me No Bammer Weed," which became an anthem in the Bay Area and helped cement their reputation for producing hard-hitting rap with an unmistakable local flavor.
Tragedy struck in 1996 when Mr. Cee was fatally shot, profoundly impacting the group and their community. Despite the loss, RBL Posse, primarily led by Black C, pushed forward and continued to release music such as "An Eye for an Eye" and "Bootlegs & Bay Shit (The Resume)," showcasing their resiliency and dedication to their craft. They further expanded their legacy with albums like "Hostile TakeOver" and mixtapes like "The Bong Show: Vol. 1." Throughout their career, RBL Posse stood out for their compelling storytelling, their commitment to representing the Bay Area sound, and their impact on the region's rap scene, which remains influential to this day.
