Peter Bardens was a British keyboardist and songwriter best known as a founding member of the progressive rock band Camel. Born in 1944, Bardens had a dynamic career that spanned blues, rock, and progressive music. Before Camel, he worked with a number of notable acts including Them (with Van Morrison), and brought his talents as a keyboardist and composer to various projects during the 1960s and ’70s.
With Camel, Bardens played a key role in shaping the band's early sound, contributing richly textured keyboard work to albums like Mirage, The Snow Goose, and Moonmadness. After leaving Camel in the late '70s, he pursued a solo career, releasing albums such as The Answer and Further Than You Know, which blended elements of rock, jazz, and ambient music. Bardens remained musically active until his passing in 2002, leaving behind a legacy of genre-pushing compositions and influential keyboard performances.
