Baltimora was an Italian music project that rose to international fame in the mid-1980s, primarily known for their hit single "Tarzan Boy." Formed and fronted by the charismatic Northern Irish singer Jimmy McShane, Baltimora was actually the brainchild of Italian producers Maurizio Bassi and Naimy Hackett. McShane was the face of the project, giving Baltimora its memorable image with his punk-inspired fashion, energetic dance moves, and engaging stage presence, although his vocal contribution to the recordings has been a subject of debate.
The project's debut album, "Living In The Background," was released in 1985 and spawned the infectious and iconic single "Tarzan Boy," which saw widespread success across Europe, Asia, and the United States. Despite the massive hit, Baltimora struggled to replicate their early success with subsequent releases. The project's follow-up efforts received a lukewarm reception, and they ultimately disbanded. In the years that followed, "Tarzan Boy" continued to enjoy periodic revivals through commercials and movie soundtracks, cementing its status as a nostalgic emblem of '80s pop culture. McShane's untimely death in 1995 curtailed any chance of a Baltimora reunion, but the project saw a posthumous resurgence with the release of compilations like "Tarzan Boy: The World Of Baltimora," which celebrated their brief but vivid splash in the pantheon of '80s pop music.
