Sapho, born Danielle Ebguy in 1950 in Marrakech, Morocco, is a French-Moroccan singer known for her unique blend of musical styles. At 16, she moved to France and by 18 was living independently in Paris, where she took acting lessons and performed as a street musician. Her musical career took off after auditioning for Le Petit Conservatoire de Mireille, leading to the release of her first LP, "Le Balayeur du Rex," in 1977.
Throughout her career, Sapho has explored various musical genres, from rock to Middle Eastern sounds, reflecting her diverse cultural background. She's known for her interpretations of songs by Egyptian singer Umm Kulthum and has released albums featuring a mix of French, English, and Moroccan Arabic (Darija) lyrics. Her discography includes notable works like "Passions, passons" (1985) and "Digital Sheikha" (1997).
