The Highwaymen

The Highwaymen were a country music supergroup formed in 1985, comprised of four of the genre's most influential artists: Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson. Each member had already achieved significant success as a solo artist before joining forces to create the iconic ensemble known for their outlaw image and dedication to traditional country sounds blended with elements of rock and folk. Their debut single, "Highwayman," from their first album of the same name released in 1985, was a chart-topping hit and won them a Grammy for Best Country Song in 1986.

Over the years, The Highwaymen released three studio albums and one live album. Their follow-up to their debut, "Highwayman 2," arrived in 1990, further solidifying their impact on the country music scene. This was followed by "The Road Goes On Forever" in 1995, showcasing their enduring ability to tell compelling stories through their music. Posthumously, their legacy was celebrated with the 2016 release "Live - American Outlaws," a box set featuring live performances and rarities, and "The Essential Highwaymen," a compilation album that distilled their most iconic tracks for long-time fans and new listeners alike. Their music continues to influence new generations, embodying the spirit of collaboration and the rugged, individualistic essence of American country music.
