Junichi Hirokami is a renowned Japanese conductor born on May 5, 1958, in Tokyo. He studied conducting, piano, musicology, and viola at the prestigious Tokyo College of Music. His career took off after winning the first Kondrashin International Conducting Competition in Amsterdam in 1984. This achievement led to his engagement with the NHK Symphony Orchestra on a tour of Japan with Vladimir Ashkenazy in 1985. Hirokami has held significant positions, including Chief Conductor of the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra from 1991 to 1996 and the Limburg Symphony Orchestra from 1998 to 2000. He has also been the Principal Guest Conductor of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.
