Giovanni Bononcini was an Italian Baroque composer, cellist, and singer. Born in Modena, Italy, in 1670, he was the younger brother of the more famous composer Antonio Maria Bononcini. Giovanni studied music in Bologna and Rome, and by the age of 20, he had already composed several operas. He spent much of his career in London, where he was a rival of George Frideric Handel. Bononcini's music is known for its melodic beauty and its use of counterpoint. He died in Venice in 1747.
