UK-born, Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Bernie Barlow is a veteran musician whose voice and songs have been percolating behind the scenes—and on stage with some of America’s biggest acts—for more than three decades. She spent nearly a decade as a keyboardist and background vocalist for The Moody Blues, and has also harmonized for Sarah McLachlan, Melissa Etheridge, Bob Seger, Joe Cocker, and Britney Spears, as well as lent her pipes to TV shows and movie soundtracks. For years, Bernie built her reputation recording song demos (including for Wilson-Phillips hits), touring, and raising a family—before stepping out front as a solo artist with albums like Golden (2003) and Redeemed (2020), the latter of which landed in the top 100 Americana albums for that year.
Her 2025 release, Walking Around This Town, is a culmination of that journey: recorded live in the studio with a band of LA’s top session players, the album showcases Bernie’s soulful, versatile voice and honest, personal songwriting about life, love, aging, and womanhood—themes that run through standout tracks like “Stand In My Way,” “Million Miles An Hour,” and “Which Way To Go”. Produced by Grammy-nominated Dave Darling, Walking Around This Town reflects Bernie’s deep roots in blues, rock, and Americana music, and proves she’s as comfortable fronting a band as she is enriching the sound behind the scenes. Simply put, Bernie Barlow is one of those voices you’ve probably heard—or heard of—without realizing, and her latest work makes a strong case for staying in center stage.
