Ranking Roger, born Roger Charlery, was a British musician best known as a vocalist for the ska punk band The Beat (known as The English Beat in North America) and later General Public. He brought a unique energy to the 2 Tone ska revival of the late 1970s and early 1980s with his distinctive toasting style and energetic stage presence.
After The Beat broke up in 1983, Ranking Roger formed General Public with bandmate Dave Wakeling. He continued to make music throughout his career, including solo work and collaborations with various artists. Sadly, Ranking Roger passed away in 2019, leaving behind a legacy as one of the key figures in the British ska and punk scene.
