Wet Willie

Wet Willie, a band hailing from the Southern United States, cemented their place in the pantheon of classic rock with a blend of soul, blues, and Southern rock elements. Originating from Mobile, Alabama, in 1970, the group was part of the Capricorn Records roster, a label synonymous with the Southern rock genre and known for its promotion of acts like The Allman Brothers Band and Marshall Tucker Band.

The core of Wet Willie's sound revolved around the powerful vocals of frontman Jimmy Hall and the robust support of his bandmates, which included his brother, Jack Hall, on bass, drummer Lewis Ross, keyboardist John Anthony, and guitarists Rick Hirsch and, later, Larry Berwald. Their breakout hit "Keep On Smilin'" reached the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1974, showcasing their ability to capture the feel-good spirit of their Southern roots in music, and it remained their most recognized anthem. Constantly active throughout the '70s, they released albums that are now seen as cornerstones of the era's Southern rock sound, including "Drippin' Wet," an energetic live album that showcased their strengths in performance, and "The Wetter The Better," which further established their funky, soul-influenced rock blend. Wet Willie's music brought joy and an infectious groove to their fans, solidifying their legacy in the classic rock and Southern rock genres.
