The Deviants

The Deviants were a seriously influential UK underground band formed in the mid-60s, initially as a social group called the Social Deviants. They're often considered a precursor to punk, mixing poetry, performance art, and social commentary with their psychedelic-tinged rock. Led by the charismatic and often controversial Mick Farren, they released a handful of albums, including the legendary *Ptooff!* and its follow-up *Disposable*, which are considered cornerstones of the freak scene. Their music was raw, experimental, and often politically charged, reflecting the countercultural spirit of the times.

While the band's initial run was relatively short-lived, their impact was lasting. Mick Farren continued to be a prominent figure in music and writing, and various incarnations of the Deviants popped up over the years, often featuring former members and collaborators. Albums like *A Better Day Is Coming* and *Pink Fairies and Friends* showcase the band's enduring spirit and their connection to other key players in the underground scene, like the Pink Fairies. Even today, their music continues to resonate with fans of psychedelic, proto-punk, and experimental rock.
