Ion Marin

Ion Marin is a renowned Romanian-Austrian conductor celebrated for his work in both operatic and symphonic domains. Born on July 8, 1960, in Bucharest, Marin began his musical journey at a young age, studying piano and violin. He graduated from the George Enescu Music College and later from the National Music Academy of Bucharest, where he studied composition. Marin furthered his education at the Salzburg Mozarteum and the Accademia Chigiana in Siena. His career has been marked by collaborations with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra, and the Vienna State Opera. Marin has also worked with notable singers like Luciano Pavarotti and José Carreras.

Marin's discography is extensive, featuring over 40 titles across labels such as Deutsche Grammophon and Decca. He has received several prestigious awards, including three Grammy nominations and the Echo Klassik Award. In addition to his musical achievements, Marin is known for his social initiatives, such as the Cantus Mundi project in Romania, which aims to promote social integration through choral singing. He currently holds the position of Endowed Professor of the Claudio Abbado Chair for Conducting at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg and serves as the Artistic Director of the university's symphonic activities.
