Livin' Blues was a Dutch blues rock band formed in The Hague in 1967 by guitarist and frontman Ted Oberg. Throughout the late 60s and 70s, they were among the forefront of the blues movement in the Netherlands, creating music heavily influenced by American blues giants but with a distinctive European flair. Despite numerous lineup changes over the years, Livin' Blues managed to maintain a consistent sound, anchored by Oberg's guitar work and the various talents of its members, including powerful harmonica performances which became one of the band's signatures.
Their albums, such as "Rocking At The Tweed Mill" (1973) and "Bamboozle" (1971), are hallmarks of the era's European blues scene, showcasing the band's gritty yet soulful approach to the genre. Tracks like "L.B. Boogie", "Black Lisa", and their energetic version of Willie Dixon's "Wang Dang Doodle" are beloved by blues enthusiasts for their authentic and raw execution. "Wang Dang Doodle" in particular has appeared in different versions over time, illustrating the band's evolving sound while staying true to their blues roots. With "Sonny Boy", Livin' Blues continued to cement their reputation as standard-bearers of the blues tradition in Europe, capturing the enduring power and emotion of the genre.
