N. Ramani

Dr. Natesan Ramani, popularly known as N. Ramani, was an esteemed Indian flautist renowned for his mastery of the Carnatic music tradition. Born on October 15, 1934, in Tiruvarur, Tamil Nadu, Ramani began his flute training under the tutelage of his grandfather, Sri Aazhiyur Narayanaswami Iyer, and later became a celebrated disciple of the legendary flautist T.R. Mahalingam (Mali). Dr. Ramani's virtuosity brought the Carnatic flute to new heights of technical brilliance and expressive capability, and he was recognized for his pure classicism, innovative techniques, and mellifluous rendition of ragas.

Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Ramani released a significant body of work that showcased the sheer beauty and intricacies of Carnatic music. His album series "Dr. N.Ramani - Flute" across multiple volumes is a testament to his skill and dedication to the art form, capturing the essence of his live performances and the profound spirituality embedded in his music. Titles such as "Festive Flute," "Maestro in Concert" (Live), "Amazing Duo," and "Lotus Signatures" demonstrate his versatility and ability to collaborate effectively with other musicians, all the while maintaining the sanctity of the traditional compositions. Through his divine renditions like "Maha Ganapathin Divine Flute Melodies," Dr. Ramani not only upheld the traditions of Carnatic music but also made it accessible and enjoyable to a wider audience. His death on October 9, 2015, left a void in the field of Indian classical music, but his recordings continue to inspire both aficionados and aspiring musicians around the world.
