Daqun Jia

Daqun Jia, born in 1955, is a distinguished Chinese composer and music theorist. He is renowned for his contributions to various musical genres, including symphonies, concertos, opera, ballet music, string quartets, and chamber music. Jia is a senior professor at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and has held several prestigious positions, such as vice chairman of the Society of Musical Composition and Theory and a member of the Academic Council of the Evaluation of China’s Journals of Humanities and Social Sciences. His compositions have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Irino Prize in Japan for his String Quartet in 1991. Recent releases include "The Wave of the Surging Thoughts & Bashu Capriccio," "Percussion Works," and "Chamber Works, Vol. 2," showcasing his diverse musical talents.

Jia's work is characterized by its integration of traditional Chinese elements with contemporary musical styles. His symphonic prelude "Bashu Capriccio" reflects his love for his hometown, incorporating Sichuan dialect and opera melodies. "The Wave of the Surging Thoughts" is a large-scale symphonic concerto-suite that explores themes of harmony between humanity and nature. Jia's contributions to music theory are also notable, with publications like "Disciplinary Instructions for Structural Analysis" and "Musical Composition and Analysis" receiving significant recognition. He has been honored with several awards, including the Baosteel Excellent Teacher Award and the Shanghai Municipal Award for Bringing up Talents.
