Conscious Sounds

Conscious Sounds is an independent UK-based reggae and dub label run by producer Dougie Wardrop. The label was established after Dougie started his career in music production, initially working with humble equipment and later releasing his early tracks, such as "Stepping Time," which was recorded on a 4-track at Nick Manasseh's house in 1990. Conscious Sounds has collaborated under various aliases, such as Bush Chemists, East meets West, Messenjah, Dub Specialist, Hydroponics, and Centry, featuring numerous contributors over the years. The Bush Chemists, a notable collaboration within Conscious Sounds, has been actively producing reggae and dub music since 1993. Conscious Sounds has experienced a resurgence in recent years, benefiting from new internet exposure and a renewed interest in dub music.

Conscious Sounds operates from an East London studio, which serves not only for the label's own music but also for mixing and recording other notable reggae artists. While recent releases from Conscious Sounds include tracks like "Digital Steppa" and "Hackney Dub," the label remains deeply rooted in its dub and reggae heritage.
