The Good, the Bad & the Queen was a British supergroup formed in the mid-2000s, bringing together some serious musical heavyweights. The band featured Damon Albarn (of Blur and Gorillaz fame) on vocals and keyboards, Paul Simonon (bassist from The Clash), Simon Tong (guitarist formerly of The Verve), and Tony Allen (legendary Afrobeat drummer who played with Fela Kuti). With such an eclectic lineup, their music fused alternative rock with dub, Afrobeat, and British folk influences.
Their self-titled debut album, released in 2007 and produced by Danger Mouse, painted a moody, reflective picture of London life in the 21st century. Over a decade later, the band reunited for a second and final album, Merrie Land (2018), a Brexit-era meditation on English identity that was co-produced by Tony Visconti. Though short-lived, The Good, the Bad & the Queen left a distinct mark with their atmospheric sound and thoughtful social commentary.
