Hans Chew

Hans Chew is a talented pianist and multi-instrumentalist originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee, now based in New York City. He first gained notice for his ragtime piano work alongside acoustic guitarist Jack Rose and has been compared stylistically to artists like Leon Russell, Nick Cave, and James Booker. Hans made a strong solo debut in 2010 with *Tennessee & Other Stories...*, an album praised by Uncut magazine and Rolling Stone that placed in Uncut's Top 25 Albums of the Year. Since then, he has released several well-received albums including *Life & Love* (2014), *Unknown Sire* (2016), *Open Sea* (2017), and the recently released *Land of Dreams* (2025).

Chew’s musical roots run deep—he grew up surrounded by music in a family where his grandfather sang in a country church quartet and his mother introduced him to rock legends like Jimi Hendrix and The Rolling Stones, while his father favored classical music. This blend of influences informs his dynamic, genre-spanning style and energetic live performances that Apple Music described as evocative of early '70s rock ’n’ roll eras. He has collaborated with artists such as Steve Gunn, Hiss Golden Messenger, and D. Charles Speer, establishing himself as a respected figure in Americana and rock circles.
