Charles-Simon Catel was a French composer, music theorist, and teacher born in L'Aigle, Orne, France, on June 10, 1773. He studied music at the Paris Conservatory and became a professor there in 1797. Catel composed operas, symphonies, chamber music, and sacred music. He also wrote several influential music theory treatises. Catel died in Paris on November 29, 1830.
