William Blank

William Blank is a Swiss composer and conductor born in Montreux in 1957. He began his composing career in the late 1970s with works like his "Hesse Lieder" for soprano and ensemble. Over the years, Blank has developed a rich catalog of compositions covering various ensembles, including orchestral works like "Omaggi," which was premiered by the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande during their 1987 world tour. His music is performed widely across Europe, the US, and Japan in prestigious venues such as Geneva’s Victoria Hall, the KKL Lucerne, the Paris Philharmonie, and Tokyo’s Suntory Hall, among others. He has collaborated with renowned conductors including Armin Jordan, Heinz Holliger, and Fabio Luisi.

As an educator, William Blank is a professor of composition and musical analysis at the Haute Ecole de Musique in Lausanne, where he also directs the Ensemble Contemporain. He is known for his dedication to contemporary music and has been awarded several honors, including the BCV Foundation Award for his lifetime work. Additionally, he leads the Lemanic Modern Ensemble and has given master classes internationally, sharing his expertise with emerging musicians worldwide. His recordings, such as "Chamber Works" and "Einklang," have received critical acclaim, highlighting his significant contribution to modern classical music.
