Sergio Vartolo

Sergio Vartolo is an Italian harpsichordist, organist, musicologist, and conductor known for his deep expertise in early music, particularly from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. He has gained significant recognition for his interpretations of composers like Girolamo Frescobaldi and Alessandro Scarlatti, often performing on period instruments and contributing to historically informed performances. Vartolo has recorded extensively, both as a soloist and with ensembles, and many of his recordings focus on sacred and keyboard works.

In addition to his accomplishments as a performer, Vartolo also served as the director of the Cappella Musicale di San Petronio in Bologna, one of Italy's most prominent historic musical institutions. His work as a scholar and conductor has helped revive interest in lesser-known Italian Baroque composers, such as Giacomo Antonio Perti and Giuseppe Torelli. With a career that bridges both academic and performance worlds, Vartolo is a well-respected figure in early music circles.
