Terje Formoe is a Norwegian artist who's been a fixture in the country's music scene since the 1970s. Born in 1949 in Fredrikstad, he's worn many hats throughout his career - singer, songwriter, actor, playwright, and author. Formoe started out as a folk singer, releasing his first album in 1975, but he's probably best known for creating Captain Sabertooth (Kaptein Sabeltann), a pirate character that became a huge hit with kids.
Formoe's career took an interesting turn in the 1980s when he started working at the Kristiansand Zoo and Amusement Park. There, he developed family-friendly musical shows, including the Captain Sabertooth series that kicked off in 1990. This character became a massive success, spawning albums, books, movies, and even theme park attractions. Formoe's work with Captain Sabertooth earned him some serious recognition, including the Spellemannprisen (Norway's Grammy equivalent) for Best Children's Album in 1994.
