The Cadets

The Cadets, an integral piece of the tapestry of American doo-wop and rhythm and blues, made their mark on music history primarily during the mid-1950s. Hailing from Los Angeles, the group was known for its smooth harmonies and rhythmic style, combining elements of gospel, jazz, and blues. They were originally known as The Santa Monica's before transitioning to The Cadets, a name under which they achieved their most notable success.

The group’s lineup fluctuated over time, but some of their key members included Aaron Collins, Lloyd McCraw, Willie Davis, and tenor Leon Hughes, among others. The Cadets are best remembered for their hit single "Stranded in the Jungle" (1956), which showcased their storytelling prowess and vocal flair. In addition to their rhythmic doo-wop sound, The Cadets also ventured into rock ‘n’ roll territory, thus weaving their presence into the rich history of the genre. Their catalog, as captured in compilations like “The Complete Releases 1955-57” and remastered collections, continues to be celebrated by enthusiasts of the era's music, permanently inscribing The Cadets as icons of their musical epoch.
