Steve Rothery

Steve Rothery is a renowned English musician, best known as the original guitarist and longest continuous member of the progressive rock band Marillion. Born on November 25, 1959, in Brampton Bierlow, South Yorkshire, he began playing guitar at the age of 15. Rothery's musical journey took a significant turn in 1979 when he joined a band called Silmarillion, which later became Marillion. His guitar work is characterized by highly melodic and sustain-filled solos, contributing to Marillion's distinctive sound. Outside of Marillion, Rothery has explored solo projects, including the duo The Wishing Tree and his instrumental solo album, *The Ghosts of Pripyat*, released in 2014.

Rothery's influence extends beyond Marillion, as he has also founded the British Guitar Academy to promote guitar education focusing on creativity and individuality.
