Kani Karaca

Kani Karaca was a Turkish musician recognized for his deep knowledge and masterful performance in traditional Islamic and Turkish classical music. With a focus on the art of Quran reading, or "Tajwid," Karaca became one of the most revered Quran reciters (hafiz) and vocalists in Turkey. He had a great understanding of "Makam," the system of melody types used in traditional Turkish and Middle Eastern music, which gave him the flexibility and richness in his vocal expressions, both for religious recitations and the broader scope of Turkish classical music.

Born in the city of Adana in 1920, Kani Karaca grew up immersed in the world of religious and classical music. Throughout his life, he was dedicated to preserving and transmitting the beauty of this tradition. His extensive repertoire included Quran recitations, hymns, and Kaside (odes), which are all reflected in his recorded works like "Kur'an ve Namaz Sureleri," "İlahiler Ve Kasideler," and the comprehensive "Kuran-ı Kerim Hatm-i Şerifi" series. Karaca passed away in 2004, leaving behind a legacy as one of the key figures in the preservation and performance of Sufi-influenced Islamic music in Turkey.
